Artist Statement

Born in London, I completed my BA at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts in 2005.

At the core of my work, I draw on my mixed English and Indian heritage for inspiration, placing a strong emphasis on cultural identity and visualizing human emotion. I also draw on my physical and emotional experience suffering from a debilitating and controversial illness. I observe, engage, document, distil & magnify the minutia of our daily lives to discover a new visual perspective and to enhance the beauty that is found in the darkest places.

My development process for each piece of work remains fluid and is itself a journey of exploration, focusing not on the medium, but on the energy, concept, process and emotional response to produce work, challenging boundaries with materials and techniques from a palette of fine art, photography and collage.

“As beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.” – Comte de Lautréamont
